Bevan Forestry - Mechanical Harvesting in the Catskills

submitted by Brian Fairbairn on 03/16/15 1

Chris Tcimpidis - President & Forester of Bevan Forestry - has found a market for "low grade timber" in Sullivan County that uses mechanical harvesting. Technology keeps marching forward and can save valuable labor costs making the impossible, more feasible. In this case, it is being used to harvest the poorer quality trees so that more sunlight can invigorate the better quality trees. Hopefully, low grade markets will spread throughout the Catskills which would offer not only more wood products to choose from, but also more opportunities to improve forest-land that currently is too expensive for most.
