submitted by robertyin on 03/10/15 1

Mark Kaigwa, sharing insights on the present and future sends the audience back to the 1990s to discover social media in leaflets, in the 2000s through music and 2010s through modern day online social networking. Using the Ghanaian concept of the sankofa bird, Mark channels a novel view of the present beyond hashtags and protests to interpret Kenyan political and pop culture history through a present lens. Mark Kaigwa is a Kenyan author and creative entrepreneur. Author & publisher of The A to Z of Kenyan Twitter, The Nendo Social Media Trend Report (disclosure: TEDxYouth@Kilimani curators Odipo Dev are co-authors) among other published chapters including On! The Future of Now (2014, CrowdCentric Media) #MadeinAfrica: How China-Africa relations take on new meaning thanks to digital communication (2015, Rowman & Littlefield). He is the Founder & Principal of Nendo - a strategy & storytelling consultancy in digital media in Africa. Mark was recognised in 2013 among Forbes 30 under 30 Best Young Entrepreneurs in Africa and is a professional speaker who has travelled and addressed +10,000 people in 30 countries. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
