Why are x-ray cabinets so big?

submitted by bcardoso45 on 03/10/15 1

In this presentation we address a commonly asked question: why are x-ray cabinets so big? Although we make cabinets as small as 16”x16”x16”, x-ray cabinets must be able to fully manipulate the sample inside them. Unlike medical systems that are open, the cabinets we describe constrain all radiation within the volume inside the cabinet. The shield on the cabinet walls allows for safe operation of the x-ray machine.
