The border town of Ajo is a sparsely populated community left over from a boom in the copper industry. Many years after the region's mine shut down, the town is still struggling to survive. Recently, a nonprofit cultural organization stepped in to help, and has done so in creative, scrappy ways. (Photos by Evie Carpenter; Video, editing by Tarryn Mento) How this was done: I was hired by an Arizona nonprofit to profile this Ajo organization in a short documentary-style video. I shot this video with three cameras over three days and two nights in Ajo. I used a JVC, a HandyCam and a DSLR that was often manned by photographer Evie Carpenter. Reporter Dustin Volz occasionally helped shoot using the HandyCam. I spent about 10 days writing the script and cutting the video to produce this final version.
