This evening at around 8:15 p.m. the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department was dispatched to a house on Tenaya Dr. near Empire Ave. in the Airport District of Modesto, California for reports of a house on fire. When crews arrived they found fire and flames coming from the rear of the home. Upon further investigation they found that the fire was contained to a detached shed. The fire was threatening several other structures all around it. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control saving the surrounding homes utilizing 3 engine companies, 1 truck company, and 2 Battalion Chiefs. When firefighters entered the shed they found a large amount of marijuana which appeared to be part of a grow operation. The shed was being used for drying and storing the drugs which is part of the production process of marijuana. Firefighters called the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department to inform them of the find and 2 Deputies were sent to the scene along with a Fire Investigator to begin the criminal investigation. The home appears to be a lived in residence however the occupants of the house were not present at the time of the fire. When and if they return, they are sure to face a lot of tough questions from Deputies.
