The 2013 Rural Futures Conference, held November 3-5, 2013 in Lincoln, Nebraska, encouraged people to step beyond their boundaries to help create a better future for rural people and places. To illustrate the need for innovative, bold, and collaborative ideas and approaches, conference planners arranged a flash mob for the November 3 reception. Conference participants were surprised by the performance, but many people crossed their own personal boundaries and participated. If nothing else, the flash mob helped set the stage for a national conference unlike any other.
