I'm featured on TV! Austria's main tv station ORF aired my interview on the program "Salzburg Today" on Channel ORF2S, 03.01.15. Allen bitten um interventionen der Universitat Mozarteum zum trotz, musste ein hochbegabte Klavier Student aus Singapur 24 Monate Militärdienst in seine Heimat abdienen. Jetzt hat er kurz nach ende des Militärdienst das zum vierten mal einen Internationale Chopin Wettbewerb gewonnen, und kann seine Karriere fortsetzen. Renate Lachinger hat den junge Pianisten an der Uni Mozarteum getroffen. From health, now on to music. Despite all efforts of interventions from the University Mozarteum, a highly gifted piano student from Singapore had to serve 24 months of Military Service in his home country. Now, shortly after the end of his Military Service, he has won for the 4th time an International Chopin Competition, and can continue his career. Renate Lachinger met with this young pianist at the University Mozarteum. R. Lachinger: Zeit seinem 15th Lebensjahr studiert Shaun Choo an der Universität Mozarteum. Für Konzerten und Wettbewerben geht er mit seinen lehrer Andreas Weber die stücke noch einmal durch. Dass Shaun Choo 24 Monate Militärdienst in Singapur absolvieren musste, ließ bei seinen lehrer alle Alarmglocken schrillen. Since he was 15 years old, Shaun Choo has been studying at the University Mozarteum. For Concerts and Competitions, he goes through the pieces once more with his teacher Andreas Weber. The fact that Shaun Choo had to complete 24 months of Military Service in Singapore, raised all bells of alarm for his teacher. A. Weber: Ja... das ist in kurzen worten gesagt, das ist der Supergau! Das heißt alles dass was vorher versucht wurde zu sehen, dass das mit einen Windstoß weg geweht worden wäre, das war die Befürchtung... Yes… to say in afew words, that was the worst case scenario! To see all that which was attempted, blown away by a single gust of wind, was what was feared… R. Lachinger: Doch der junge Vielversprechende Pianist, wusste sich zu helfen. Er hat für das Militär musik komponiert! But the young promising pianist knew how to help. He composed music for the Military! S. Choo: Nachher, waren die so erstaunt, die haben gesagt "wir müssen das unbedingt auf video, auf ein MTV machen, und so habe ich mitgeholfen, dieses video zu machen und auch produzieren, und es war sehr viel spaß! Afterwards, they were so surprised, they said "we must definitely make a MTV video out of it”, so I helped to make/produce this video, and it was a lot of fun! R. Lachinger: "Tango" heißt eine der kompositionen von Shaun Choo, die besonders gerne im Konzerten spielt. Auf dem weg zu großen Karriere, benötigt der außertalent noch etwas anderes... “Tango” is one of Shaun Choo’s own compositions that he particularly enjoys playing in concerts.
