In mid-August 2014, SMS RENTS donated equipment and manpower to create ten large shrub beds in the schoolyard. The beds were filled with topsoil provided by Vale and Hollandia Environmental Solutions. In September, students and teachers from the school worked with volunteers from the Sudbury Horticultural Society, Sudbury Master Gardeners and Greater Sudbury's Environmental Initiatives to plant hardy native shrubs and wildflowers in those beds. This regreening project was made possible with major funding provided by Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations: a Glencore Company and donations from businesses and organizations who support VETAC's Ugliest Schoolyard Contest each year.
