Amanda Koster, nationally-acclaimed photographer, photojournalist and author speaking recently in a lecture at Bellevue College. She talks about her approach to socially-responsible photography, describes her experience with Doctors Without Borders, her project SalaamGarage, and leaves a generous segment at the end for discussion. Amanda Koster's lecture, No More Drive-By's, reminds photographers how we really have the chance to change people's lives when interacting with them as a subject for photography. How many times do photographers shoot a subject and keep going -- not bothering to find out what was going on in the life of that person. And yet a photographer has much more leverage to explore people's lives and reveal their personal histories. Great lecture! Many thanks to photography instructors Ginny Banks and Chad White for bringing Amanda Koster to Bellevue College.
