About the title
At night, you lie down in your bed. You have your teddy-bear in front of you and your little doll behind you. Head on the pillow, “Night night, mummy. Night night, daddy” and you lie down. When you are sleeping you are not in your bed; you’re off dreaming somewhere. And you wake up – Oh, here I am in my bed! It’s just like that. That’s why Buddhists use this term “awakening”. You awake to where you are. When you’re dreaming, you are where you are. You’re in your bed—but you’re not, you’re in your dream. Where is the dream? Nowhere! You are actually in your bed.
You are sleeping in your bed. We are sleeping in the natural state. That’s where we are sleeping. That is where we will wake up. So it is not about leaping into the natural state, or getting into the natural state, or whether you’re entitled to it, or whether you’ve earned enough merit and wisdom…
