Spec Racer Gen3 at Texas World Speedway - the future of Spec Racer!

submitted by specracer5 on 11/24/14 1

Hey subs! Check out the future of the Spec Racer class. This is a lap and a half of Texas World Speedway in the new Gen3 Spec Racer. The Gen3 version sports a new engine and engine management package that really bring the chassis to life. The end results of the transformation are a vastly superior exhaust sound, 20-25 more HP and ft-lbs of torque over a 1000 RPM longer curve, and upwards of 150 pounds saved at the rear of the chassis. In this video I'm driving the Spec Racer Sports Gen3 out of Houston, Texas in a test session at TWS. The car was on older tires so I couldn't drive her 10/10ths and we were a bit rushed so we didn't have a chance to get the pedals set correctly for my legs. As such, braking events caused my knee to hit the steering wheel. With a bit of test time and some dialing in for personal preferences (every driver is different), I think the Gen3 could be 3.5 seconds per lap quicker at TWS which is mammoth. Note the red/silver Gen2 SRF that I chase during the full lap in this video. He was the fastest SRF on the track at the time and is a very good driver. Note how quickly the Gen3 caught and passed him, even with some ham-fisted (footed?) driving on my part. Enjoy!!!
