Free Pet Wellness Clinic for Low Income Latino Families

submitted by moncho37 on 11/24/14 1

Through a partnership of local animal protection organizations, free veterinary services were offered to low-income pet owners at a first of its kind special event, Celebrate Your Pet, Sunday, March 25 in Sonoma. Compassion Without Borders (CWOB) provided free pet wellness care: health checks, vaccinations, flea treatment and deworming. Free spay/neuter surgeries were available for cats and small dogs, and were offered by the Pets Lifeline veterinary staff. "CWOB is excited to be reaching out to the low-income Latino community." Christi Payne-Camblor, DVM, Executive Director of CWOB, "This community often lacks the resources or finds it difficult to access services due to language and cultural barriers. So many diseases in animals are preventable such as Parvo, yet animals in the lower income communities often do not receive vaccinations that can prevent these common diseases."
