Daisy Carr Doll Maker, African American - October Gallery

submitted by October Gallery on 11/05/13 1

As a doll maker, I created my first porcelain doll six (6) years ago. Today, my dolls are capturing the hearts of collectors and non-collectors nationwide. I am a resident of Mitchellville, MD, and my love for crafts began with sewing, crocheting, knitting and ceramics. My ceramic classes lead to porcelain doll classes and what started out as a hobby, turned into a small business for which I enjoy. With the help of God subscribing to doll magazines, and meeting some very creative people, I began to explore the world of doll lovers and designers. My dolls are completely handcrafted from the pouring of the porcelain to the intricately detailed painted faces, woven wigs, and custom-designed costumes. They are also multicultural, featuring children of African-Americans, European, Hispanic, Asian, and Latin American nationality. People purchase dolls because they represent something, or someone in their life. That's why I feel it's important that there be black dolls, white dolls, and dolls from every culture. In January 1999, I created a cloth doll called, "The Doll With No Face". Along with this doll, I have written a poem that represents this doll. The poem, "The Doll With No Face",© is registered with the US. Copyright Office.
