Me N Ma - Interview

submitted by Wise Women Will Save the World on 10/22/14 1

Me N Ma Girls are Burma's first all-singing, all-dancing, all-girl group. The five talented performers have released their first all original album 'MingaLarPar'. Rehearsing in a run down old house in downtown Yangon, and keen to have a voice and make a difference to the world, they've performed for dignitaries, members of parliament, and major venues throughout Southeast Asia and the United States. The girls are now working with Power Music Inc. and a variety of producers in the U.S. and have just released, on iTunes, their first western style song, "Girl Strong. "While they are working to expand themselves into a global force, their hearts will be forever anchored to Myanmar. The girls came together as part of a national contest to form a girl supergroup organized by Aussie ex-pat Nicole (Nikki) May. While each of the girls has a unique story, they share the same core values; strong ties to family and getting a college education. The girls forever stress unity and equal rights for all. Ah Moon and Kimi are Christian, while the rest are Buddhists. When you meet the the girls, you discover how issues such as ethnic or religious differences can be set aside though the bonds developed by music, and creating a sisterhood that is the Me n Ma girls.
