Deep Detecting Settings and Discrimination Patterns for Minelab Etrac & General Tips

submitted by etracinfo on 10/11/14 1

A short video explaining the discrimination pattern I generally use when metal detecting for deep targets, especially deep silver coins. The detector is a Minelab Etrac with a Detect S.E.F 18" x 15" coil fitted. It is a heavy beast but the extra few inches it gives both in coverage and depth over smaller coils makes a real difference when seeking deep coins. Since I only discrimiate a small region of the screen out, I rarely switch to all metal or the quickmask screen. I would tend to use that feature more when hunting in parkland for shallower targets when I am using a pattern with more discrimination. 'Slow and low' is definitely the way to go when looking for deep targets and without spending crazy money, the Etrac is one of the best machines around for depth and reliable target ID at greater depths. As the machine has so many options to tweak settings, many viewers will no doubt disagree with the settings I use in this video and use different settings but the fact that the Etrac can be tailored to suit different soil types and ground conditions is a real bonus. Ground type and soil compostion differs from field to field as well as county to county so understanding what the settings do is the real key to success in different situations. Feel free to share this video on any site where people could make use of it. The harness was bought from Pro-tectors www.pro-tectors.co.uk and they also sell on ebay. They supply worldwide. This video will also be uploaded onto my detecting channel 'UKDetecting'. Thanks for watching.
