Carlie Smith traveled to China to receive transplants of umbilical cord blood stem cells. She lived in Qingdao China for a month with her mother and father.
Carlie has Septo Optic Dysplasia, a condition that effects the brain including the optic nerves. While Carlie doesn't have all the possible symptoms someone with SOD might face, her family wanted to do everything they could to extend her range of vision as much as they could.
In this video her parents discuss their decision to come to China for umbilical cord stem cell therapy and the challenges they faced in the process.
