Bannockburn National War Memorial Scotland

submitted by PassingPlaces on 10/30/13 1

Follow my travels every week on Passing Places my weekly Scottish podcast. www.bonnietours.com The Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 saw Robert the Bruce and the Scottish forces rout Edward II's army. It wasn't until 1328 that King Edward III finally signed a treaty acknowledging the sovereignty of Scotland and Robert the Bruce became the King of Scotland. The Bannockburn Memorial is due for a major upgrade including new visitor facilities. Improvements should be completed in time for the 700th anniversary of The Battle of Bannockburn in 2014. Approximately 15,000 men lost their lives both English and Scots.
