A humorous look at some of the new features of the GH3 against the GH2 together with a insight into the raw recording capabilities of the new Panasonic shotgun microphone, the DMW-MS2, all made in a day using the GH3.
No lighting (apart from a few +brightness tests for Vimeo in readiness for a grade), OR sound changes (apart from volumes for phone simulation) was used in the production of this mini-epic. We make NO apologies that this was a very hastily put together - scripted in an hour, filmed in two, edited in about the same. Grading is to be done and will replace this version over the next few days... for sure.
There's lots of dialect errors & bad acting - of course! (including Jim's ever-changing pronunciation of the word 'sensor' !!) We feel we need to apologise to Italian Americans intensely. :-)
All in all, this feature was to give a quick overview of the GH3's new features over the Lumix GH2 camera AND to give the new Panasonic shotgun mic - the DMW-MS2 - a (virtually) unedited workout. For run-and-gun the mic was very good on this shoot, however, fiddling within the GH3 setup menus is advisable. To summarise, its not really a replacement for a pro audio setup but is much better than Pany's earlier offerings. The electret condensor mic's freq response is 80 Hz to 20 kHz, features uni-directional (GUN) and uni-directional (STEREO) characteristics, sensitivity of -35 dB with a s/n ratio of 70 dB. Its a 3.5 mm mini plug weighing 4.7 oz. A wind breaker, camera clip and tripod mount shoe comes as standard. 4 out of 5 for the mic.
