REFRACTIVE DISAPPEARANCE - ENGLISH - Its there, and not there!

submitted by mielis on 09/19/14 1

This is an exciting experiment. Fill a dish with water. Place a glass lens in the water and you will be able to see it outline. However if you place the lens in cooking oil it seems to disappear. This is because glass and cooking glass have the same refractive index. So, light passes through both without bending. Place a thin test tube inside a fat one. Now fill the thin one with cooking oil. Once filled oil will spill out and fill the fat tube too. At this stage the thin test tube will disappear! arvindguptatoys.com/toys/Refractivedisappearance.html
