Danube River Lock

submitted by Mellow Wanderer on 09/09/14 1

Hello Friends! Mellow Wanderer here back with an exciting video of how locks work. This was taken on board the Viking river cruise ship Idun as it traveled on the Danube through Germany, Austria, and up to Budapest, Hungary. Some 36 locks are along the route, raising or lowering the water level to allow vessels to get to their destinations. The whole process takes between 45 to 60 minutes, but this time-lapse speeds the process to less than a minute. If only it were just that easy!
