He was an author for the publisher Hal Leonard. Duncan used to give this arrangement of Malaguena out to his students. I have been wondering who the author might be...as I found it on somewhere on the internet along with a bunch of public domain songs and thought it was anonymous. Hal Leonard just contacted me and graciously alerted me to the name original author. I am glad to know and share the information with you as I really like this arrangement. It is fun to play and not too difficult. The Edward B. Marks company, another publisher, was not so gracious when they mistakenly claimed this song under their copyright. They filed the claim with youtube which resulted in the take down of this video for several weeks. The Marks company owns the copyright to "Malaguena" by Ernesto Lecuana, a totally different song. Malaga is a region of Spain and has inspired numerous pieces of music. The first published guitar piece called "Malaguana" that I have found is by Francisco Tarrega (b.1850)....which has the same melodic main theme as the song in this video. One of these days I'd like to do a video for Tarrega's version as well.
