On August 14, 2014 Officer GIl Benitez of the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a 911 call where a man in a motorized wheelchair became stranded due to a torrential storm. Officer Benitez weathered the elements in include heavy rain and lightning while pushing the man to safety over a city block away. Officer Benitez stayed with the man at his home assisting him until a caretaker arrived.
