Edward L. Ayers, Jill Ker Conway, Natalie Zemon Davis, Frank Deford, Robert B. Putnam, Marilynne Robinson, Kay Ryan, Robert B. Silvers, Anna Deveare Smith and Camilo Jose Vergara meet with the staff of the National Endowment for the Humanities to discuss books and individuals who influenced their lives and careers. Later in the day President Barack Obama presented each with the 2012 National Humanities Medal in a White House ceremony.
