The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering provides an environment for the students to work in the areas of biomedical systems, communications systems and data networking, applied electrostatics and electromagnetics, microsystems and digital signal processing, power systems engineering, robotics and control and software engineering. Western is one of Ontario's leading research universities with strong programs in fields such as medicine, business and engineering. Our students can benefit from interdisciplinary research giving them access to outstanding research facilities within the department and across campus such as CSTAR, Robarts Research Institute, Lawson Health Research Institute and Western Nanofabrication Facility. The department faculty members also lead the NSERC CREATE Program in Computer-Assisted Medical Intervention (CAMI) with the focus on transdisciplinary "hands-on" clinically-motivated research. The power systems engineering group retains two NSERC senior industrial research chairs to develop world-class power systems engineering research and graduate program. In the department we also have Canada Research Chairs in Advanced Robotics and Control and in Wireless Communications.
