The French police have clashed with pro-Palestinian demonstrators at a rally against the Israeli atrocities in Gaza. The French demonstrators took to the streets in the northern Paris suburb of Sar-Sel, defying a citywide ban on such protests. The government banned such rallies across the capital over fear of unrest. Sunday's event spiraled out of control after the protesters set fire to trash cans and hurled firecrackers and stones. The French security forces then responded by firing tear gas and rubber bullets on the crowd. Police also blocked access to a local synagogue for fear of renewed attacks. Last week, demonstrators attempted to storm two synagogues at a similar protest. On Saturday, another pro-Gaza protest that started out peacefully, turned violent later.
