The UN Security Council also urged respect for international humanitarian law including protection of civilians. It welcomed efforts to broker a ceasefire in the region. Reacting to the outcome of the Security Council's meeting, Palestine's envoy to the United Nations Riyad Mansour said Palestinians hoped that the Security Council would adopt a resolution to condemn the Israeli aggression.
