The ceasefire was agreed between the two sides with the mediation of the United Nations. It began at five hours GMT and will last 12-hours. Israel says it will continue to quote “locate and neutralize” Hamas tunnels during the pause. International efforts to negotiate a longer seven-day halt to fighting are still ongoing. Israel intensified its attacks on Gaza minutes before Saturday’s ceasefire began.
