Israel has extended a cease-fire in its offensive against Gaza for an additional 24 hours. The move came after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas showered rockets on Israel following the end of an earlier 12-hour cease-fire. Israel’s cabinet agreed to prolong its pause in fighting until midnight 2100 GMT Sunday in line with a UN request. The cabinet says, however, that the Israeli military will continue to operate in the Gaza Strip, destroying Hamas’s tunnel networks. Hamas has rejected Israel's new extension of the ceasefire saying truce is unacceptable unless Israel withdraws its soldiers from Gaza. On Saturday, Palestinian fighters launched a fresh salvo of retaliatory rockets at Israeli cities including Tel Aviv.
