How To Do Flat Embedding

submitted by VolumeEM on 12/11/25 1

In this video, learn the technique of flat embedding samples for Serial Block-Face Scanning Electron Microscopy (SBF-SEM). This method is ideal for samples with a flatter aspect ratio or small specimens that require special orientation. It works well with tissue from vibratome sections, such as brain or heart slices, and can also be used for smaller specimens like Drosophila egg chambers or sperm sacks. For optimal results, we typically use hard EPON resin, but Durcupan or Araldite are also viable alternatives. by Jason Yin, Jason Liang and Joseph Sall from Alice Liang Lab, NYU Langone Health Microscopy Core, New York, USA Music: The Painted Night by National Sweetheart
