Hammerhead (Stall Turn) Manoeuvre - Aerobatics & Spinning | #Aerobatics #SuperDecathlon #LearnToFly

submitted by Learn To Fly on 03/20/25 1

Student pilot Roshan performs the Hammerhead (also known as a Stall Turn) aerobatic manoeuvre with Instructor Dave Pilkington in an American Champion Super Decathlon aircraft. The Hammerhead manoeuvre begins like a loop, with the aircraft pitching up into the vertical. When the aircraft slows, a turn is performed using the rudder, with the opposite aileron used to keep the aircraft straight. The aircraft "swings" sideways (like a hammer) and the nose drops into a dive. The pilot then eases the aircraft back to straight and level. This manoeuvre is part of the training syllabus for our Aerobatics & Spinning Endorsement, which combines adrenaline pumping fun with important aircraft handling skills, and also builds your confidence as a pilot.
