Hammetoe Surgery; Success Rate, Procedure & Recovery

submitted by Downtown Pain Physicians Of Brooklyn on 05/31/24 1

A hammertoe is a flexible or rigid CONTRACTURE usually affecting the second, third, fourth or fifth toes. Muscle imbalance leads to a bending or “buckling” of the toe joints. Shoe irritation of the deformed digit results in corns, skin inflammation and inability to wear shoes comfortably. If left untreated, these conditions can progress to ulcers or infections. Success Rate & Recovery: Hammertoe surgery is usually done as an outpatient procedure. The type of procedure you have will depend on the severity of your hammer toe. If your hammer toe has become fixed or stiff, the surgeon has two options: joint resection or fusion. In joint resection, an incision is made on the top part of the toe to reach the ligaments and tendons underneath and remove a piece of bone. With fusion, ligaments and tendons are cut to straighten the toe and bone is placed into a fixed position. #hammertoes #podiatry #downtownpodiatryphysicians To learn more about Hammertoe visit www.downtownpodiatryphysicians.com/hammertoe-surgery/ Learn more by visiting www.downtownpodiatryphysicians.com/ Follow Downtown Physicians: Instagram: www.instagram.com/downtownphysicians Facebook: www.facebook.com/downtownphysicians Twitter: www.twitter.com/downtownphys Contact us TODAY for an appointment. __ 📱 (212) 379-6767 🌎 DowntownPodiatryPhysicians.com 📍 80 Maiden Lane, Ste. 905, New York, NY 10038
