Rod Monochromatism is a rare form of a problem in the Macula, the central part of the retina that enables most of us to see in detail. The macula has not developed and individuals often have Nystagmus. Nystagmus is when the eyes move from side to side very quickly. She also has extreme sensitivity to light and wears special contact lenses to address that. She has less fear of falling and missing curbs, a problem that she was always ridiculed about when growing up. In addition, she has constant double vision. Syntonic phototherapy enabled her to reduce the nystagmus and the double vision and enables her to function much better. Special Contact lenses reduce the sensitivity to light. This patient is an unusually gifted individual. She teaches computer to others despite the fact that she has low vision and does not see like everyone else. She is also a gifted musician and overcomes barriers !! she is an inspiration.
