This PSA was filmed at the second annual fair held on April 16, 2013. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories. Special thanks to the film crew: Chris Rymer, Stephen Brou, Robert Worlds, Michelle Gee, & Julie-Anne Brou. MISSION: Increase awareness and understanding of all forms of violence through education & community engagement and provide life saving resources to help empower violence victims to break their silence and end the violence. BACKGROUND: Julie-Anne's mother, Catherine Brou, was a victim of domestic violence. Being a mother of five children it was difficult for Catherine to get the courage to leave her abusive relationship and embark on a new journey as a single parent. At the time Catherine was in her abusive relationship there was very little support or resources being offered to domestic violence victims. The mindset was still that of "it's the woman's fault if a marriage or relationship is not working" and so she faced many different obstacles such as homelessness, suicidal thoughts, loneliness, desperation, pain and intense fear. Despite the lack of support, Catherine was able to defy the odds and leave her abusive relationship and successfully raise five children on her own. Catherine said that if she had the different services being offered to violence victims today, she would have left her abusive relationship much sooner. Julie-Anne has dedicated her life to helping others in need to ensure no one else endures what her mother once did. By creating this violence awareness and prevention fair, Julie-Anne hopes it will increase the communities' awareness and understanding of all forms of violence and empower victims to break their silence and end the violence. Julie-Anne admires the strength it took her mother to begin her transformative journey from victim to survivor and dedicates this fair in her honor.
