Join us for the start of a new 8 part teaching series at Swerve where we’ll work towards emotionally healthy spirituality. - - - ✏️ MESSAGE NOTES: Then Jesus left the Jordan, full of the Holy Spirit, and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over, he was hungry. {Luke 4:1-2} The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” But Jesus answered him, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone.” {Luke 4:3-4} 1: I AM NOT WHAT I DO So he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. The devil said to him, “I will give you their splendor and all this authority, because it has been given over to me, and I can give it to anyone I want. If you, then, will worship me, all will be yours.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.” {Luke 4:5-8} 2: I AM NOT WHAT I HAVE So he took him to Jerusalem, had him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here. For it is written: He will give his angels orders concerning you, to protect you, and they will support you with their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” And Jesus answered him, “It is said: Do not test the Lord your God.” {Luke 4:9-12} 3: I AM NOT WHAT OTHERS THINK OF ME …As he was praying, heaven opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in a physical appearance like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well-pleased.” {Luke 3:21-22} 4: I AM LOVED AND KNOWN BY GOD When the time came to completion, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then God has made you an heir. {Galatians 4:4-7} But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. {Romans 5:8} - - - ✝️ ABOUT SWERVE: Swerve Church is a new church in the neighborhood of Bushwick in Brooklyn NYC.
