At the global level, UNDP has recognised that Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) are uniquely positioned to empower, motivate and connect with people to reduce poverty and enhance their quality of life. On October 17, 2011, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP), the United Nation Development Programme Office for Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) sat with the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society (BVHS) to talk about their work in supporting vulnerable groups in Barbados through their Life Skills Programme. The result was a 20-minute film titled according to the IDEP theme, "From Poverty to Sustainability: People at the Centre of Inclusive Development". The documentary, by discussing the transformation of two of the beneficiaries of the Life Skills Programme, highlights the effects of social exclusion on the individual, and how it deepens poverty and inequality. It offers a glimpse into the lives of the men who have benefitted from the programme and their journey to empowerment, reinforcing the shared responsibility of all in creating opportunities, raising awareness of people's needs and amplifying the voices of the vulnerable.
