I was first introduced to Minibombo books at an art museum gift shop, and I have only been more pleased with each subsequent one I purchase! They are consistently fun, unique and engaging for littles and adults with their minimal text and eye-catching illustrations! Shake the Tree is about a little mouse who finds a scrumptious nut that's up too high in the tree for him to reach. As the title suggests, he decides to give the tree a good shake to make the nut fall down. The nut doesn't fall, but to Mouse's surprise, a fox comes tumbling down! When Fox threatens to eat Mouse, Mouse quickly scampers up the tree. This leads Fox to give the tree a shake, shake, shake to get Mouse to fall down. Mouse doesn't fall, but to Fox's surprise, a warthog comes tumbling down! This cycle of shake, fall, shake, fall continues until eventually a bear shakes so hard that everything and everyone falls out and the bear can have himself a choice of what to eat! I love the cyclical nature of this book. Littles can easily predict what's going to happen, and giggle along as their predictions come true. Shaking the book is a fun way to keep uninterested readers engaged, and the focus on directions make this a great choice for teaching the concept of right and left!
