Savasana or Corpse Pose, is a yoga relaxation exercise generally recommended before beginning your session, while performing each asana, between asanas, and at the end of your session. Here’s why 💡: 💙 Relax before your practice Taking just 5 minutes to relax in Savasana before you begin your practice can make all the difference. By bringing your focus to your body and breathing, you'll be better prepared for the upcoming practice while regulating your body temperature, blood pressure, and respiration rate. 💙 Relax throughout your practice As stated in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, a yoga posture should be steady and comfortable (sthira sukham asanam). Doing so helps your body become more flexible, supple, and light, allowing you to expand your comfort zone and perform complex asana with ease and control. 💙 Relax in between each posture Incorporating yoga relaxation poses in between sets of asanas is another key component of any yoga practice. Practicing relaxation poses for 30 to 60 seconds in between sets of asanas prevents your body from jumping into fight or flight mode. 💙 Relax after your practice Yoga relaxation at the end of your practice enables your body and mind to fully integrate the changes that have taken place during the practice.
