If a child under the age of 18 has a physical or mental condition that very seriously limits his or her activities and the condition has lasted or is expected to last at least one year, that child may be eligible for Children’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI). However, the child must have little or no income or resources, and the Social Security Administration will consider all sources available to the child, including the parents’ income and assets and any step parent’s income and resources (if the child lives with the step parent).
