In this personal story, James Mullins and his team talk about the Track and Trace experience and celebrate how the staff involved were key to making it the important and safe service that it has become. The NHFT Track and Trace team was rapidly set up in response to the wider NHS Test and Trace service that was created to trace contacts of those who were known to be positive for COVID-19. The role of the team is to track, contact and record staff and patients within NHFT who may have come into contact with others who have tested positive and to provide advice on next steps. The team was made up initially of staff who were shielding at home and continues with staff who either remain shielding or are not able to return to their work base on a full time basis. At the time of writing, the team have advised 258 staff to self-isolate for a total of 2,666 days and been a crucial part in keeping NHFT services safe throughout the pandemic.
