America was more or less convinced that senator and former attorney general Robert F. Kennedy would snag the Democratic nomination to the presidency in 1968. After all, Kennedy checked off a ton of boxes: Not only was he an outspoken critic of the Vietnam War, but he was considered by many to be a champion of civil rights. Following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., many democrats considered Kennedy to be something of a unifying left-wing voice. Sadly, however, Kennedy's life would be cut short when he was shot following a speech at Los Angeles' Ambassador Hotel on June 4th of that same year. Two days later, he would succumb to his injuries, dying from his wounds.
