We're kicking off our Christmas series called, The Gospel According to Elf. This week we see a clip from the movie where Buddy discovers he's not an elf, but a human! We're reminded of the incarnation, when God put on flesh. That's when God became incredibly human with the sole purpose of redeeming mankind. - - - 📖 ABOUT THE SERIES: What if we could pull some gospel truths from the hilarious Christmas movie "Elf"? Join us for a fun series called, "The Gospel According to Elf" where we will attempt to do just that! During this 4-week teaching series we will LOL as we view clips from the movie but then attempt to connect scriptural truths to help us remember the true reason for the Christmas season. - - - ✏️ MESSAGE NOTES: In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be registered. 2 This first registration took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David, 5 to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant. 6 While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 Then she gave birth to her firstborn son, and she wrapped him tightly in cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. {Luke 2:1-7} 1: IT IS EVIDENCE OF JESUS’ HUMANITY When the time came to completion, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. {Galatians 4:4-5} According to the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness…But now [Jesus] has appeared one time, at the end of the ages, for the removal of sin by the sacrifice of himself. {Hebrews 9:22,26} For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. {Hebrews 4:15} 2: IT IS EVIDENCE OF JESUS’ HUMILITY 5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. 7 Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, 8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death—even to death on a cross. {Philippians 2:5-8} 3: IT IS EVIDENCE OF JESUS’ DIVINITY But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—then he told the paralytic, “Get up, take your stretcher, and go home.
