After spending nine days in a basement while her city was under constant shelling, Sasha became very sick. That's when she and her mom knew she had to leave. She evacuated Ukraine alone. Her mom stayed behind to care for Sasha's disabled grandfather, her grandmother, and their beloved family dog.
