Lunar New Year for 2021 will begin in February 12. Fun fact! The title logo for Lunar relays the message of "Happy New Year" in five different languages, each being from a country that celebrates the Lunar New Year. 2021 brings the Year of the Metal Ox on the Chinese zodiac. I do a unit on the Lunar New Year each year with my own students, and they are always so eager to learn about what animal their birth year falls on. Below on the chart I have also included what U.S. grade most students will be in for each sign. 2010 - Tiger (5th Grade) 2011 - Rabbit (4th Grade) 2012 - Dragon (3rd Grade) 2013 - Snake (2nd Grade) 2014 - Horse (1st Grade) The animals used in lunar zodiacs can alter or change slightly depending on the country, and can be easily found with a little help from good ol' google. 😊 Please remember that when teaching about different cultures and music from around the world to be respectful of traditions, and use the opportunity to have your students be open minded to other peoples customs.
