Ansel Easton Adams was an American landscape photographer and environmentalist who helped found Group f/64, an association of photographers advocating "pure" photography which favored sharp focus. They believed in using the full tonal range for a photograph without any distortion or color additions such as post-production techniques used today. He became involved with this movement at 12 when he first visited Yosemite National Park where his fascination started on August 10th, 1903. A lifelong advocate for conservation (he also set up photo libraries), Adams' work reflects these passions through black-and-white images that show both natural beauty -such as shots from Yellowstone Natl Parks-, and also human civilization's impact like San Francisco docks after the 1906 earthquake.
