The nature of terrorism has “metastasised” since 9/11 and the war on terror, according to Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan. Dr Balakrishnan said the advent of the internet had “turbocharged” terrorism, with many groups such as ISIS known for their use of the internet and social media platforms. “The risk has gone up, not gone down,” Dr Balakrishnan told Sky News Australia. “If we put ourselves in the Biden administration’s shoes, the truth is they inherited a very difficult situation.”
