Will elections lead to stability in Ivory Coast? | Inside Story

submitted by Marvin's Underground Evening Lectures on 12/06/21 1

After months of political turmoil, voters have cast their ballots to choose legislators in Ivory Coast. The poll is seen as a test of the nation's stability after a presidential election in October led to violence. President Alassane Ouattara's opponents have disputed his bid for a third-term. Now, two of them have teamed up in a coalition to prevent him from expanding his power. Henri Konan Bedie and Laurent Gbagbo fielded parliamentary candidates on a joint list. Will this West African country overcome this turmoil? Presenter: Peter Dobbie Guests Festus Kofi Aubyn, Regional Coordinator for Research and Capacity Building at The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding. Jesper Bjarnesen, Senior Researcher at Nordic Africa Institute. David Zounmenou, Senior Research Consultant at Institute for Security Studies and Former Member of UN Group of Experts on Côte d'Ivoire. - Subscribe to our channel: aje.io/AJSubscribe - Follow us on Twitter: twitter.com/AJEnglish - Find us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/aljazeera - Check our website: www.aljazeera.com/ #IvoryCoast
