Workplace Bullying with Pamela Garber and NoBullying.comhttp://nobullying.com/what-is-workplace-bullying/
Pamela Garber earned her Master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas. She has a strong background in helping clients to successfully work through Family of Origin issues, Depression, Anxiety, Stress, Addictive Behaviours, Eating Disorders and Career Counselling. My clients often benefit from using a notebook during sessions as a means of tracking how they are applying work done in therapy to challenging situations.
The interview starts with these questions:
My name is Pamela Garber and I’m in private practice. I have a Psychotherapy practice in mid-town Manhattan. I’m pretty eclectic in my practice seeing people mostly in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s feeling depression and anxiety and actually dealing with a lot of work issues and stress also combined with lack of social support.
Wow. Excellent and of course our focus is on anti-bullying and bullying. Do you mind if I ask you: do you think bullying is a big issue today as it was in the past or has it improved that our thing is changing?
You know on the one hand, it’s hard to say because as far as the volume because things are so much more talked about now. It’s possible that it existed along the same line in the same levels in the past but things just communicated much more rapidly and thoroughly now so it’s just on the forefront in that level. I do think though that the intensity of it has definitely increased, whether the volume of it has or not independent of that, the level of bullying and the stakes are much higher and the level much more intense.
Excellent and do you see a difference in how it happens today? Of course, now we have social media and smart phones and so much technology?
Definitely. The other thing is, with all of that I see that it happens in venues where you wouldn’t expect it. It would be one thing for bullying to take place on a social level outside of work but now it’s become the norm for office politics and it has taken place with people at the level where it’s not age appropriate. They are behaving like reality TV character in places where you wouldn’t expect this to be the norm from government to corporations.
It’s the first time I have heard it described like that. So, it’s actually really becoming a problem for adults as well in corporations?

Managing Workplace StressStress is a problem for all managers. Typically staff suffering stress go to their general practitioner (doctor) and are signed off from work for four weeks. This removes the stressors. But when the person returns, the stressors are still present and the stress is experienced again.
What's needed is an integrated model of stress and a method of applying that model such that managers can understand stress and understand how to manage it before it costs them dear.
This presentation provides that integrated model showing how to manage workplace stress.
Top 5 Triggers for stress in the workplaceWhile a small amount of stress can help to motivate us and keep us focused, too much is never a good thing and can lead to serious problems with anxiety and depression.
We’ve identified our top 5 triggers for stress in the workplace.
1. Not enough breaks
Working through lunch every day might impress the boss, but sooner or later it’s going to take its toll. And it’s not just holidays and lunch-breaks that we’re talking about, either – even short screen breaks are essential for re-charging your batteries and giving you a much-needed chance to rest and recuperate.
2. Working when you’re ill
Presenteeism is a huge problem in today’s high-pressure working environments. It’s not just about people coming in sick and under-performing – unwell employees tend to create more unwell employees as viruses and bacteria spread, and coming back to work before you’re ready can delay the recuperation process too.
3. Difficult people
Dealing with difficult colleagues and customers is a major cause of stress at work and one of the last unmeasured costs to organisations in terms of absence, poor performance and high staff turnover.
4. Lack of control
Not being able to determine our own workload, a lack of consultation and dealing with shifting demands and deadlines can leave us feeling powerless and under-valued, leading to high stress levels and anxiety.
5. Poor environment
The actual place where we work is extremely important for our wellbeing – so if we’re subjected to constant noise or movement of people around us, bad lighting, not enough space or a poorly configured workstation, it’s going to impact on our performance.
Being able to identify and eliminate triggers for stress is a key starting point for building a mentally healthy workplace where everyone can give their best.
Find out what you can do to support your employees’ wellbeing with mental health training from Skill Boosters – coming soon.

How to Stay Calm When You Know You'll Be Stressed | Daniel Levitin | TED TalksYou're not at your best when you're stressed. In fact, your brain has evolved over millennia to release cortisol in stressful situations, inhibiting rational, logical thinking but potentially helping you survive, say, being attacked by a lion. Neuroscientist Daniel Levitin thinks there's a way to avoid making critical mistakes in stressful situations, when your thinking becomes clouded — the pre-mortem. "We all are going to fail now and then," he says. "The idea is to think ahead to what those failures might be."

If you have been dealing with stress at work, it most likely seems as though the stress is created by your job, your co-workers, or your boss. But, in any moment that you don't think about any of these things, you will experience no stress at work.
If your stress at work was caused by the facts of your situation, then you would feel stress in every moment at work that the facts were the same.
The first step for how to deal with stress at work, or how to handle stress at work, is to recognize that your stress is created by your thoughts and not by the facts.
The next step for how to deal with stress at work (how to deal with anxiety) is to recognize that whatever outcome you think would be bad, might not be bad at all for your life. Ideally, this will give you wonderful anxiety relief or stress relief
How to Motivate OthersHow do you motivate others? For sales managers this is a key issue. Fact is we can't motivate anyone who doesn't want to be motivated. The best we can do is create an environment for people to motivate themselves.

8 Ways To Manage Stress To Help Prevent And Manage Depression
Welcome to this presentation of 8 ways to manage stress to help prevent and manage depression.
Stress has both direct and indirect effects that can lead to depression. Directly, stress leads to irritability, sleep disruption, and cognitive changes. Indirectly, stress disrupts a person's normal coping mechanisms, relationships, routines, and can lead to unhealthy coping. All of these things can lead to depression, but you can take action to prevent it.
It is very important to understand your own stress responses. This means being mindful and keeping a journal of what situations, or life struggles lead you to become stressed, so that you can tailor your life accordingly and avoid or make a plan to manage these pitfalls.
Make sure to exercise, get plenty of fresh air, and take advantage of mind-body exercises such as yoga and tai chi, which are incredibly effective in calming the mind and reducing stress. Regular meditation is also one of the most effective ways to reduce stress and may prevent depression.
Many people neglect to schedule time to relax when planning their daily lives. To help you deal with the negative stressors in your life, it is important to be conscious of and make a deliberate effort to schedule relaxation time that promotes mental health and reduces stress.
Plan your day to include something that gives you pleasure because having something to look forward to is very helpful in getting through tasks that are not so pleasant or are causes of stress.
Think positive, and reward yourself when you are successful and try not to dwell on failures. Accept that everyone, including you, has limits and cannot succeed at everything. Instead of allowing your mind to be consumed by the things you struggle with, focus on the things you do well.
When people are trying to put more stress on you, assert yourself in a positive, non-threatening way. Recognize that accepting the demands people try to place on you is a matter of choice, and you don’t need to take on everyone’s stress as your own.
Over commitment is one of the most significant causes of stress, learning to say no, understanding and setting your boundaries and making yourself a priority can avoid burnout.
Getting daily hugs, finding something to laugh about, and practicing gratitude, have all been found to be beneficial in maintaining a positive outlook, staying happy, reducing stress, and preventing depression.

IBS | Abdominal Pain | constipation | diarrhea | Gastrointestinal infection | Manipal HospitalsThe video describes a condition known as Irritable Bowel Syndrome which affects the large intestine. It begins with the structure of the large intestine and the various parts of it along with their functions. The functioning of the large intestine in terms of muscular contractions is shown and the cause for IBS is then explained. Abnormal contractions can lead to poor water absorption from the food that passes through it causing diarrhea or to excess water absorption that leads to constipation. The causes of IBS, though unclear, are stated to be due to emotional distress and its symptoms are then discussed such as abdominal pain/discomfort, bloating, gas and cramping. The modes of management of the condition are then discussed with dietary changes where one eats food rich in fiber, stress management using yoga and medications such as anti-depressants, laxatives and antispasmodics being the preferred solutions.

In this video from Skillopedia, you will learn 5 simple steps to get away that unwanted stress from your life. Are you constantly irritated, frustrated or aggressive. Well, this means you are so stressed. Stress is a part of life and if you are stressed, whether by your job or by something more personal then there's always a solution to a problem. But, not taking control of the situation and doing nothing will make your problems worse. So here are some stress busting techniques for you.
1. Exercise - Be Active
Exercise in almost any form can act as a stress reliever. It won't make your stress disappear but being active can definitely boost your feel good endorphin and take you away from your daily worries. So be it a 40 minutes of brisk walking, yoga , aerobics or some laps in the pool you will find that you have forgotten the day's irritation and concentrating on your body. The results are - energy, optimism, calm mind and fit body.
2. Connect with people
A problem shared is a problem halved. A good support network of colleagues, friends and family can ease your work troubles and help you see in a different way. If you don't connect with people, you won't have support to turn to when you need help. The activities we do with friends help us relax and we often have a good laugh with them., which is an excellent stress reliever And may be your friends or collegues can also help you out with some solutions to your problems.
3. Avoid unhealthy habits
Don't rely on alcohol, smoking and caffeine as your ways of coping. This will not help you to relieve any stress in fact it will create new problems. It might provide temporary relief but it won't make the problems disappear. Drink plenty of water and eat healthy small nutritious means. Hunger and dehydration provokes anxiety and stress. So stay fit and healthy.
4. BE positive
Look for positives in life and things for which you are grateful. Write down three things at the end of everyday which went well and for which you are grateful. People don't always appreciate what they have. They always tend to crib and complain about everything. Make a conscious effort to train yourself to be more positive about life. Change your perspective and you will be able to see your situation from a more positive point of view.
5. Plan something Rewarding at the end of your stressful day
Rewards like taking a hot water bath or half an hour of reading a good book or even watching your favorite T.V show helps. So basically I am talking about some me time. Put aside work , housekeeping and family concerns for brief period before bed time. Don't spend this time planning for the next day or doing house chores. Remember you need time to recharge and energize yourself. You will be much prepared to face the next day.
So take control of the situation you are in and say goodbye to stress with these techniques above

This session can be used with or without headphones.
This is a simple sleep session that guides the mind slowly down to a deep Delta state, with a stop at 7.83 Hz on the way to help rid the mind of excess chatter.
14 Hz - 7.83 Hz - 1.05 Hz with isochronic tones.
Subliminal affirmations for “release stress” include:
My life is peaceful
I always feel relaxed
I have all under control
I feel rested
I let out the tension that is within me
I am open to relaxation
I am open to calmness
My mind is peaceful
My body is relaxed
My muscles are relaxed
I have no worries

How To Instantly Relieve Stress & Increase Happy HormonesHow to relieve stress: http://www.erinhuggins.com No need to stress out my dear! But, hey, life happens and sometimes it's unavoidable. Want to know how to instantly turn that stress around, calm your nerves and increase happy hormones? In this video I'm going to show you how to instantly relieve stress and increase happy hormones. We will use an ancient healing arts and ayurvedic technique called alternate nostril breathing. Alternate nostril breathing is a great way to get centered, calm the mind, balance the hormones and de-stress. If you are prone to anxiety or have a high stress job, I recommend doing this "stress busing" method 3-5 minutes a day or until your stress is gone. Food for thought: what can your stress teach you? Where does stress keep showing up? Is stress really a bigger message? While the alternate nostril breathing method is a great way to relieve stress and increase happy hormones, I encourage you to do everything you can to remove the caused of your stress.
In the meantime, you can instantly relieve stress and increase happy hormones using this ancient ayervedic technique.

7 Hz - Stress Relief - Let Go Of Mental Blocks - Emotional Cleansing & Rejuvenation Of SpiritTheta waves range between 4-7 HZ. Theta is one of the more elusive and-extraordinary realms we can explore. It is also known as the twilight state-which we normally only experience fleetingly as we rise up out of the depths-of delta upon waking, or drifting off to sleep. In theta we are in a waking-dream, vivid imagery flashes before the mind’s eye and we are receptive to-information beyond our normal conscious awareness. Theta has also been-identified as the gateway to learning and memory. Theta meditation increases-creativity, enhances learning, reduces stress and awakens intuition and-other extrasensory perception skills.

Up to a point, stress is an unavoidable part of living. It has become more problematic as our modern world becomes more complex and frantic. To fail to acknowledge your role in creating the stress in your life will simply amplify it. Review what choices you've made, and whether you want to retract any of them for the sake of reducing your stress exposure. Stress tends to be reduced once we simply accept our choice to live with the stress-inducing situation, rather than pursue some alternative action.
Positive, constructive ways to deal with stress include most notably meditation, sports, music, reading, and creative hobbies. Self-destructive, unhealthy methods for dealing with stress are easy to identify. Even innocuous-looking methods of stress relief can become a crutch that steals your quality of life and creates guilt and recrimination. Less obviously destructive diversions such as video games, the internet, and TV create a low consciousness that disengages you from your mission in life.
Proactively exam what is causing the greatest stress in your life. If you choose to "just live with it," identify positive ways to mitigate that stress. Evaluate what negative stress reducing technique to eliminate to improve the quality of your life.
