In this video, I give you a breakdown of the essential elements of storytelling, traditional screenplay structure, and a glimpse into the purpose of stories as a whole. The Story Circle is the most valuable tool for writers struggling to build organic narrative structure into their stories. Understanding it fully will allow you to use it to build your full screenplay, each act, sequence, and even each scene.

The Storytelling Animal by Jonathan GottschallHumans live in landscapes of make-believe: we spin fantasies, we devour novels, films, and plays and even our sporting events and criminal trials unfold as narratives. Yet the world of story has long remained an undiscovered and unmapped country. It's easy to say that humans are "wired" for story, but why?
Here, a provocative young scholar shows how storytelling has made our species successful and how it continues to shape us in startling ways.

Joyce Carol Oates - On Writing CharactersComplete video at: http://fora.tv/fora/showthread.php?t=1204
Critically acclaimed author Joyce Carol Oates discusses how a writer develops realistic characters, using examples from her novel "The Gravedigger's Daughter."
-----
Joyce Carol Oates talks about "The Gravedigger's Daughter."
A family desperate to escape Nazi Germany settles in upstate New York, where the father is demeaned by the only job he can get: gravedigger an cemetery caretaker. The Power of EmpathyThe Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts (the RSA) is an enlightenment organisation committed to finding innovative practical solutions to today’s social challenges. Through its ideas, research and 27,000-strong Fellowship it seeks to understand and enhance human capability so we can close the gap between today’s reality and people’s hopes for a better world.
As part of that mission, the RSA public events programme has launched RSA Shorts (http://www.thersa.org/events/rsashorts). This new series provides a snapshot of a big idea, blending voices from the RSA public events programme and the creative talents of illustrators and animators from around the world. It responds to the ever-increasing need for new ideas and inspiration in our busy lives and acts as a shot of 'mental espresso' to awaken the curiosity in all of us.
The audio of this RSA short is of Dr Brené Brown who spoke at the RSA on The Power of Vulnerability (http://www.thersa.org/events/audio-and-past-events/2013/the-power-of-vulnerability). She talks about the difference between sympathy and empathy and argues that to be truly empathetic you have to be vulnerable by connecting with someone’s pain in yourself.
Animated and directed by Katy Davis (AKA Gobblynne).

Gary Vaynerchuk: How to Tell Stories in an A.D.D. WorldAbout this presentation
In world with Vine, Snapchat, and Twitter, how can creatives capture attention to make their voices heard?

In this 99U talk, best-selling author and founder of VaynerMedia Gary Vaynerchuk breaks down how our work can cut through our current “A.D.D. Culture” — One where we binge-watch entire television seasons in one sitting and prefer texting to phone calls.

“We’ve gotten to a point where everything is on our time,” says Vaynerchuk, “So why is everyone storytelling like it's 2007 in a 2014 world?” The best digital storytellers, he says, use the social media to “hook” audiences in for the deeper stuff. We should give, give again, and give some more before ever asking for anything from our community. “We have to start respecting the nuances of every platform.”

Please note: This talk contains adult language.

About Gary Vaynerchuk

He was also notably featured in Decanter Magazine’s 2009 Power List which lists the 50 most influential people in wine.
Gary’s ultimate goal is to own the New York Jets. Although his various businesses obviously play an enormous role in his life, he always puts his family first.
