He loves looking at natural light, and his unique tip is that you need to picture light the way your camera sees it, rather than the way you see it. Photographer Ken Rockwell - Photo Composition Storyhttp://www.silberstudios.tv Photographer Ken Rockwell joins Marc Silber again to talk about how he captured his award winning shot "Mono Lake Under Pinatubian Light," which refers to the special quality of light that happened after Mount Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991. The ash entered the upper atmosphere and for months we had very weird light, especially after sunset. This image was made about 15 minutes after sunset, in fact all the other photographers had left by then. Ken said "always look where other aren't!"
Ken tells how he captured this photo, using a camera that was out of repair, but knew how to compensate for its errors and still come away with an outstanding image!

Marc's Photography Tips: Choosing Black and White Versus Colorhttp://www.silberstudios.tv Digital photography is an amazing medium in which photographers can shoot their pictures and then determine if the picture will be shown in color or black and white.
Andy Katz, a forty year photography veteran, shares his experience and provides tips for shooting in both black and white as well as color, on the Marc Silber Show.
For professional photographers, the question boils down to "is the color helping or hindering the photograph?" If the color is hindering the beauty or quality of the photo, then use the Silver Efex Pro software to convert the photograph to black and white this works extremely well because you can't tell the original photo was shot in color.
RC Rivera's Fashion Photography Tips & Secretshttp://www.silberstudios.tv RC Rivera is a very talented San Francisco fashion and advertising photographer. He shares his tips for preparing for a shoot, selection of lenses, simple lighting tips and even the secret for procuring models. He gives practical and immediately usable tools that you can put right to use. Take a look inside the glamorous world of fashion photography.
Photography Tips From Fine Art Photographer Huntington Witherillhttp://www.silberstudios.tv Fine art photographer Huntington Witherill joins us today on the Marc Silber show to share tips about photography and his views on the process as a whole. He reminds us that it is important to focus on the process of being the photographer rather than constantly looking to get the next photograph or image.
A passion for the medium is one of the most important components—being engaged and passionate about anything takes a lot of patience, persistence and hard work. Huntington also advises people to get rid of preconceptions when going out to a location to shoot photos. It's easy to carry a preconceived idea when you're going to a specific place, but you might happen upon something completely different that creates an amazing photo. As for practical tips, he believes that 2D design classes are helpful for visualizing composition for photographs. Learning how to arrange forms and lines is useful for creating balance and a sense of purpose in a photograph.
Photography Tips from Commercial Photographer Vincent Laforethttp://www.silberstudios.tv Commercial photographer Vincent Laforet joins us today on the Marc Silber show to talk about his approach to photography. He provides us with photography techniques and tips for both amateurs and professionals alike. For six years, Vince was a photojournalist for the New York Times, where he worked on a team that won the Pulitzer Prize for its 9/11 coverage. As a photojournalist, Vince often had to choose a single image that most accurately captured the essence of an event.
He advises people to put the camera down, walk around, and ask themselves a series of questions, such as "What really is special about this place?" Learning about the history of a photo shoot location or finding the best time of day for shadows and lighting is just as important for creating a great photo composition. When looking through the lens, a photographer needs to make sure that a photo will elicit emotions and thoughts.
Vince points out that many people romanticize the life of a photographer - they forget about the preparation and packing of equipment that accompanies every photo shoot. Carrying too much equipment slows down the photographer and may result in missed images and opportunities, not enough and you can also miss shots, so do your research and be prepared including your memory cards.
Landscape Photography Composition Tips from Joseph Holmeshttp://www.silberstudios.tv Joseph Holmes, a Berkeley-born landscape photographer who's been a fine art photographer since the late 1960's, joins us today on Advancing Your Photography to share his photo composition tips! Joseph's goal is to take pictures that change people's outlook on the world, and composition is the most important tool a photographer has, especially in landscape photography as it is one of the few factors you can control.
So how does one take a life-changing photo? Holmes says that you need to work very hard and explore every photography technique so you can recognize "the shot" when you see it. His composition tip is one that many beginners forget: don't ignore the edges of your photos! Watch the full interview for these tips and more on taking landscape photos! check out his website http://www.josephholmes.com/
Surf Photography: Chris Burkard's Tips for Getting Photos Publishedhttp://www.silberstudios.tv Chris Burkard is a freelance surf photographer known for his distinct and creative photos. He tells the story how, at age 23, he published his first photography book "The California Surf Project " http://www.thebookprojectca.com/ He gives tips for those who are aspiring to get their own photographs published. Chris Burkhard tells about planning the book from the beginning and working with his editor to get the final product that was well marketed around the world. And he also discusses why he trusts his images to SanDisk Cards.
Jim Goldstein's Tips on Landscape & Nature Photography Equipmenthttp://www.silberstudios.tv Looking for the right camera equipment to take great nature and landscape photos? Professional photographer Jim Goldstein shares his tips & tricks on the Marc Silber Show - Advancing Your Photography! When preparing to shoot, Jim's first instinct isn't to reach for his camera, but to use his brain -- the creative mind is the most important tool you have for visualizing your photos! Once you have a concept, you can apply this to any equipment you have on hand, whether it's an iPhone or a high-resolution digital SLR, and shoot more creative pictures than if you had just picked up a camera.
Jim always brings a DSLR and wide angle lens for his landscape photography shoots, and accessories like a tripod and fast memory card are essential. He also gives tips for when to get the best lighting in your photos, and most of all, to have fun behind the camera!
Jim Goldstein has had his nature and fine art photography featured in numerous publications, including Outdoor Photographer, the Washington Post, Huffington Post, and many more.
Nature & Wildlife Photography Tips - Florian Schulz on Nature Photoshttp://www.silberstudios.tv/ Nature and wildlife photographer Florian Schulz joins us today on the Marc Silber Show - Advancing Your Photography! Florian shares some amazing wildlife photography tips and tricks for taking stunning landscape photos. As with all photography, Florian says you need to get to know your subjects -- in this case, the natural lighting, landscape, and wildlife of the scene you're shooting. He loves taking pictures of entire ecosystems at different times of the day and year, and emerses himself in the natural world. Even though so much is out of your control when it comes to nature photography, you can still work with lighting and composition by choosing when to shoot and where to position yourself in a scene.
Florian Schulz was named Conservation Photographer of the Year by the National Wildlife Federation and Nature's Best, and has had his photos featured in the Natural History Museum in New York and several other recognized museums. His passion for photography comes from the mix of adventure and experience of the world he gets each time he goes out and shoots!

Today we interview Neal Menschel, a famous photojournalist whose work has taken him around the world, from presidential elections to the fall of the Berlin Wall. His photos have been published in Newsweek, the Christian Science Monitor, and many other publications throughout his career in photojournalism.

AYP| Pro Tips: Photoshop Tips & Techniques - Ken Rockwellhttp://www.silberstudios.tv In this video, photographer Ken Rockwell joins us to demonstrate the basics of using Adobe Photoshop to touch up and edit photos. Ken first picked up a camera at the age of 5, and since then has learning and testing cameras for over 20 years.
Additionally, he has been studying digital imaging since the 1970s, so he is very familiar with the art of image processing. Ken goes over the basics of burning and dodging to create contrasts that can either draw the viewer's eye away or towards a focal point. He demonstrates the usage of layers and masks in Photoshop to lighten and darken photographs. One of the main points he emphasizes is that adjustments on photos must always be subtle, to make them look as natural as possible. If anyone notices the dodging and burning, the magic of the photograph is lost.

Photographer Jack Hutch - Photography Tips and Techniqueshttp://www.silberstudios.tv Based out of the San Francisco Bay Area, commercial photographer Jack Hutcheson has taken numerous photographs of landscapes, architecture, and people, including a number of campaigns for famous clients like Apple, Time Magazine and Adobe. Today, he joins us in this video with Mar Silber to talk about shooting and lighting tips for aspiring photographers.
Jack strongly advises people to loosen up when they're shooting photographs--experimenting with techniques and keeping an open mind will allow them to shoot better photos. The same method can be applied to lighting--intesad of worrying about the exact technical aspects, experiment with different light sources to find one that fits the scene. Portrait Photography Tips - Patrick Roddie's Burning Man Photoshttp://www.silberstudios.tv Today we're talking with well-known Burning Man photographer Patrick Roddie on Advancing Your Photography. Roddie is a self-taught photographer and he shares some tips for portrait photography that he's learned while shooting his Burning Man photos for the past 13 years.
Patrick doesn't follow a strict checklist of techniques when it comes to photographing people. Instead, he focuses on connecting with people and capturing the moment. He learned photography by taking pictures of "stuff", and wasn't sure how to approach and take pictures of people. But if you are comfortable with and trust yourself, portraits are much easier than you think!
Roddie approaches every portrait by maintaining eye contact with his subject as he frames the photo in his mind and raises his camera to quickly take the shot. If you worry too much about lenses or F-Stops, etc, you might miss the decisive moment!
