Jonah (1932)St. Louis, United States of America.
Introductory intertitle reads: "Jonah is a whale of a sea-elephant and has just broken the St. Louis Zoo record by increasing his weight, 900 lbs in one year!"
High angle shot of a zoo enclosure with a pool of water. Zoo keeper holds a fish in the air to tempt Jonah. Jonah sticks his head out of the water and fights off sea lions who are jumping for the same fish. As the keeper feeds the sea lions nicely, Jonah just sits in the water with his mouth wide open making a horrible noise - terrible table manners.
Jonah pulls himself out of the pool - it seems quite an effort. He follows the keeper. "Jonah is just over two tons and goes for fish in a big way." In L/S we can see just how big he really is. M/S of Jonah sitting beside the keeper - he is HUGE!
The keeper walks behind Jonah and Jonah bends his body back to grab for fish. The keeper stands on Jonah's back and feeds him fish. It is quite cute although I guess would possibly be considered cruel today. C/U of Jonah's mouth as the keeper feeds him fish. The keeper climbs off and throws a fish in the water for Jonah to jump in for. Jonah dutifully jumps in.
